The Milkmaid Dress
The dress that started it all—and the original design for Red Velvet Atelier. Handmade from repurposed cotton and linen, combined with vintage tray cloths featuring hand embroidery, appliqué, and crochet details.
The Milkmaid Dress was inspired by an old black dress owned and worn by the founder herself. From this timeless piece, all other designs have grown.
Every Milkmaid includes adjustable bows under the arms and two convenient pockets, blending vintage charm with modern versatility.

The Saartjie Dress
Each Saartjie Dress begins with a vintage tablecloth—never cut to fit, but allowed to shape the design itself. The fabric leads; we follow.
Made to fit sizes 8 to 18, this is a dress that truly fits every body. With long side ties for adjustable shaping and the option to wear it back to front, it’s as versatile as it is flattering. Some are made from a single tablecloth, while others are pieced together from a mix of vintage cloths—always featuring beautiful embroidery and handwork.

The Jana Dress
The Jana Dress evolved from the Saartjie Dress, offering a more modern and versatile take. Designed to be worn back to front, she features huge, deep pockets—perfect for library books or even baby kittens.
The bodice is crafted from very old, hand-embroidered tablecloths, often edged with delicate crochet. The skirt is made from soft linen or cotton that complements the intricate top, while the pockets are pieced together from leftover vintage fabrics.
With very long ties under the arms, you can style the Jana Dress in countless ways to suit your mood and shape.

The Pick-a-mix/ 'Mengelmoes rokkie'
The Mengelmoes is a joyful blend of vintage curtains, sheets, tapestries, towels, and found fabrics—each dress completely one-of-a-kind.
Made from soft cotton and linen, she’s comfortable and breathable, with deep pockets and plenty of movement. Inspired by childhood trips to the sweet shop—where you’d choose a mix of caramels, peppermint, and chocolate weighed on an old-fashioned scale—each Mengelmoes feels like a wearable bag of sweets.
She’s comfort, colour, and a little bit of nostalgia—stitched into every seam.
